Canada Greener Home Grants Program

Great news! The Federal government has set up a new grant program that offers homeowners up to $5000 that can be put towards energy-saving projects. Some qualifying projects would include;

  • Energy-efficient doors and windows
  • Programable thermostats
  • New energy-efficient heating and air conditioning
  • Home solar panels
  • Air sealing
  • Improved insulation

To qualify you must prove you meet certain criteria, such as (but not limited to);

  • Be the owner of the home
  • Maintain the home as your primary residence
  • The home must be six months old or older
  • Must go through both pre and post-retrofit EnerGuide audits
  • Must complete at least one retrofit that is recommended by the Energuide evaluation

The program also includes grants of up to $600 that can be used towards the Energuide home energy audits.

The federal government has also proposed funding the CMHC up to 4.4 billion dollars over the next several years to create an interest-free loan program to help homeowners complete authorized energy-efficient refits. The program would loan up to $40,000 interest-free to help cover the cost of qualified retrofits and it is expected that over 200,000 households could take part in the program.
